Government to recover five acres from hospital

Bangalore Urban Special Deputy Commissioner G S Nayak had recently written to the Revenue Department Principal Secretary, seeking permission to cancel the allotment of the land to Syed Nisar.

In 1991, Nisar was allotted the land at Bilekahalli village, off Bannerghatta Road, for constructing a cancer hospital. Violating the norms, he leased it out to the Apollo hospital.

The Government Land Protection Task Force, headed by a retired officer V Balasubramanian, during its investigation into encroachment, brought to light the irregularities in June this year.

He recommended to the government to cancel the land allotment and reclaim the land. The land, which is valued at Rs 44 crore now, had been alloted for a meagre Rs 10 lakh 20 years ago.

The task force had recommended the government to confiscate the property and the structures or recover market value of the property from the hospital authorities.

The district administration has initiated the process as per the Land Revenue Act. “Once we obtain permission from the Government, we will issue notices to the concerned,” said Nayak.

He said once the cancellation process is completed, they would explore the legal possibilities as to whether to sell the land to Apollo Hospital at market rate or rent it out.
