Speaking at the KDP meeting held under the presidentship of Zilla Panchayat President S N Raja Rao, he said “a meeting under the presidentship of Deputy Commissioner, AC, three taluk Tahsildars and revenue officials will help in solving 50 to 60 per cent of the problems.”

The CEO came down heavily on the style of functioning of Somwarpet taluk EO for providing Ashraya housing facilities to 25 beneficiaries when there is space to provide housing facilities for 75 persons in Mullusoge Gram Panchayat limits. However, the EO clarified that the target was to provide housing facilities to 25 beneficiaries.

Education and Health Standing Committee President Manu Muthappa said several people have encroached paisari land in Palemadu in Hoddur GP limits. The Gram panchayat has identified sites to distribute among siteless under ‘Navagrama’ yojane and has sent the list of beneficiaries for approval to Taluk Panchayat one year ago. However, no action has been intiated so far.

Taluk Panchayat in-charge EO Motappa said DC has been requested to transfer 10 acre land from paisari land in Palemadu.

Housing facilities will be provided to the beneficiaries after the land is transferred to the name of TP EO.

The CEO directed ITDP Officer L J Ghanti to select a tribal haadi for the pilot project to implement Forest Rights Act. The selected beneficiaries will be given title deed and other facilities, he added. As many as 304 Forest Rights Committees have been constituted in Chikmagalur district. This include 82 in Madikeri, 97 in Virajpet and 125 in Somwarpet taluks. As many as 1,051 applications have been submitted by the forest dwellers. The land will be inspected during the grama sabhe in haadi and the applications will be recommended to the divisional level committees.

Kannada Jagrithi Samithi member T P Ramesh said “though Forest Rights Bill is introduced in 2006, title deeds have not been distributed to any of the tribals.”

Zilla Panchayat President S N Raja Rao directed Adult Education Officer Chandrashekar to provide details on the handing over of tables, benches, TV, and books by the motivators of literacy centre.
