Bangalore set to shake a leg

Last Updated 21 September 2011, 16:40 IST

Your mind might be screaming: Who Are They? But when they come on the stage as Flo Rida, Ludacris and Jay Sean respectively the veil of unfamiliarity will get brushed aside, and thousands of feet will be set in motion. They might not be a big draw like Enrique Iglesias, the Spanish Pop music icon, who thrilled spectators with an eletrifying performance in the last edition of the Champions League opening ceremony at Johannesburg.

But Bangalore’s Gen-Z will sure will be eager to dance along with the torchbearers of Hip Hop, Rap and R&B when they unleash the magic of music on them on Thursday at the sprawling Palace Grounds as part of the opening ceremony of the Champions League T20, 2011. DJ Carolina Cartell will set in motion a night of frenzy at 6.00 pm, and  that will be followed by Jay Sean, who is in news as the close aide of Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, also familiar for Indians through his big-selling album Me Against Myself.

A stately touch will be provided to the proceedings when 10 captains of the participating teams will walk down the ramp to sign the Spirit of Cricket delcaration, a standard feature of the Indian Premier League and Champions League opening ceremonies of the past years.

Once the ceremony over, the dazzling entertainers will take centre stage once again. This time it will be the turn of Luda Cris to touch the strings of Bangaloreans. The producer of Theater of the Mind and Battle of Sexes is sure to turn up with a few forceful numbers. Flo Rida, famous for scores like Mail on Sunday and Elevator, will provide a colorful end to the night that will also see the presence of a few high-profile names from the country’s film industry.

During the last few days, weather gods have been venting their fury on the City. Perhaps they might just be interested to be in the gallery on the morrow and listen to the messengers of modern music.
