Is Lokayukta going slow post-Hegde's tenure?

Last Updated 29 September 2011, 19:13 IST

A shocking example for this was the complaint lodged by former mayor P R Ramesh in July with the Lokayukta against the alleged irregularities in the remodelling of stormwater drains in four valleys of the City - Hebbal, Koramangala, Vrushabhavathi and Challaghatta.

Agencies probing the alleged irregularities in the work had pointed out misappropriation of funds and change in plan.

On the evening of September 27, Ramesh received a letter from the Lokayukta office stating that the details he had given were insufficient and he had to furnish a reply by September 28.

“The Lokayukta office asked me to provide all the details in one day. It is next to impossible,” said Ramesh.

The letter was dated August 25, but it was despatched to him only on September 25 and a day later, the letter reached the Basavanagudi post office. The registrar of the Lokayukta office asked him to give more details to substantiate his claims. Ramesh said: “If the letter was prepared on August 25 and was signed by the registrar on August 30, why should it take 25 days for the Lokayukta office to despatch the letter?  This raises many doubts.”
