Governor honours four achievers

Those felicitated received a memento, a citation and a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
The Raj Bhavan felicitates achievers on the occasion of Republic Day and Independence Day regularly.

Kavya, a 16-year-old born blind girl from Devanahalli, who secured 80 per cent marks in the SSLC examination, was one among those felicitated on the occasion.

C N Narayana Reddy, who secured Operation Parakrama medal for his involvement in anti-terrorist operation when Parliament was attacked by terrorists, was also felicitated. He is a native of Gowribidanur in Chikkaballapur district.

D Shashikala of Bangalore, a born-blind, who secured DLit in music; Shivanand Pattana of Bagalkot, born in a poor family, who secured 94.48 per cent in SSLC, Social activist Ruknuddin Nisar Ahmed of Bhatkal; state artiste Shankarappa Ramappa Sankannavar, Gadag; Sushmitha Dhanabalan of Bangalore, who stood economically independent despite suffering brain damage; Salumarada Ninganna of Ramanagara, who planted more than 840 saplings along road sides; M V Kannaiah of Bangalore, who is working for welfare of poor children and HLN Rao of Aryabhata Cultural Organisation.

The four organisations: Swami Vivekananda Integrated Rural Health Centre and Shree Sharadadevi Eye Hospital in Pavagada; Rachita Mahila Samaj, Chikmagalur; Sharadadevi Andhara Vikasa Kendra, Shimoga and Association for the mentally challenged in Bangalore.
