'Govt plans to revive all tanks'

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of Independence Day celebrations here on Saturday, he said pisciulture is lagging behind in Karnataka compared to that of in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. “We are incompetent to fulfil the local demand.  Hence, the government is mulling over developing pisciculture with private participation,” he said.

The Centre has directed the State government to develop 9 crore fish in the current year. It is inevitable to emphasise on inland fishing in order to implement the direction, he said.
It has been decided to give Rs 1 crore each to the Fisheries Federations in the State. A sum of Rs 5 crore is being given to Mysore Okkuta. Loans and equipment will be provided to fishermen with this amount, Asnotikar said.

Asked about the Hanakona and Tadadi thermal power projects, the minister said he had appealed the government to consider the opinion of an expert committee before implementing or cancelling them.
