Political speeches mark I-Day in City

Former union minister Murli Manohar Joshi, who took part in the Independence Day celebrations organised at BJP’s office said that there was need for increased efforts to tackle growing menace of terrorism.

Referring to H1N1 menace, the Lok Sabha member Ananth Kumar said the Centre should launch a national drive to check the spread of the disease.

KPCC President R V Deshpande after hoisting the national flag at the function organised by the party office said that terrorism and communal forces have been obstacles in the nation’s development.

In a similar function organised by the JD(S) party’s National President H D Deve Gowda said that there was need for united efforts by the State and the Centre to combat terror acts.
Various organisations and educational institutions also celebrated the Independence Day. March past, processions, bike rallies marked were the chief attractions of the day.

At a function organised at the Bangalore University, the Vice-Chancellor N Prabhudev stressed the need for education for all. He underlined the importance of imparting education in the rural areas.
