Shreyal, Maitreyee triumph

In the men’s summit clash, Shreyal edged past South Western Railway’s Jaideep Das 12-14, 11-4, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, 13-11. Maitreyee then defeated Aishwarya Bidri of BNM 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4, 13-11 to lift the women’s crown. Maitreyee also won the youth girls title, completing a triple crown. She had won the junior title on Monday.

The men’s final saw both the players treating the crowd to some splendid rallies in crunch situations. Jaideep pocketed the first game 14-12 but Shreyal bounced back, running away with the second game. 

The third game saw a good tussle between but Shreyal played the big points better. After being tied 7-7 at one stage, Shreyal broke away to finish it off at 11-8.

Jaideep was not going to throw in the towel yet as he fought back to win the fourth game 11-7. After Shreyal pocketed the fifth game 11-7, the sixth game witnessed a neck and neck battle. At 9-9, the game could have gone either way but Jaideep struggled to control his shots, and Shreyal pulled away to win 13-11.
