Varying 2G loss figures raise doubts, says Congress

Last Updated 21 November 2011, 13:25 IST

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said there were varying estimates of losses in the controversy and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) was looking into the matter.

"Whatever facts have come to light from within CAG...these have raised a big question mark on the entire report," Tewari said in response to queries.

He said estimates in 2G spectrum allocation varied from "zero loss" to loss of Rs.176,000 crore to the exchequer.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is expected to raise the 2G spectrum issue in the winter session of parliament in the wake of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registering a fresh case and alleging that the department of telecom had increased the base spectrum for telecom companies during the late Pramod Mahajan's ministerial tenure from 2001 to 2003.
