The Lokayukta police, acting on information received about the threat to Badrinath’s life, have requested the police to provide him with protection.

KGF MLA Y Sampangi, who is being tried on charges of bribery in the Lokayukta Court, had recently approached the High Court seeking a change of Bench, claiming that Sudhindra Rao would not be able to give a fair trial. Sampangi’s bail had been cancelled for three days by the Special Lokayukta Court, to allow the two main witnesses to depose and complete their cross examination.

An affidavit was also filed at the same time, claiming that Judge Sudhindra Rao’s brother and Congress worker, Badrinath had played a crucial role in the cancellation of bail for Sampangi (BJP).

Sources in the Lokayukta said intelligence received about the threat to Badrinath’s life was being taken seriously as Sampangi was an influential person and local MLA.

A letter has also been written to IGP (Central Range) Malini Krishnamurthy for initating appropriate action. Sampangi was trapped by the Lokayukta police in January 2009 while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh from H M Farooq at the Legislators Home.
