31-year-old Vivek Singh, a resident of Laxmi Bai Nagar, was arrested yesterday near Jai Singh Road in central Delhi when he came there to collect the first instalment of Rs 50,000.
Singh had been calling his ex-employer, who is into providing house keeping services to government offices, and asking him to hand the ransom.

"The caller demanded Rs 1 crore and threatened to eliminate the complainant and his family members. The complainant contacted the Crime Branch. Yesterday, the payment of first instalment of extortion money was fixed," DCP (Crime and Railways) Ashok Chand said.

The caller frequently changed his location and finally asked the complainant to handover the bag to the shop keeper of a kiosk in Jai Singh Road.

"ASI Rakesh Ahluwalia posed as the shopkeeper of the kiosk and after 15 to 20 minutes, an unidentified person came and asked for the bag containing money. He was apprehended and identified as Vivek Singh," Chand said, adding that the mobile phone has been seized.
Singh had worked with the businessman for almost two months and quit his job recently.
