Senior advocate Fali Nariman, advocates Mohan Katarke and Anitha Shenoy appearing for Karnataka, sought time for filing reply to the petition filed by Goa. Goa advocate said that the matter should be resolved soon.
On January 9, 2009, Goa had urged the Apex court to issue direction to stop the construction of the project on the ground that Karnataka has been cutting trees in the forest areas without prior permission from the Ministry of Environment and Forest. On Feb 20, the court had directed the Union government to look into the CEC report on the project and file a report on the issue.
