Drought: Karna asks officials to take measures on war-footing

There should be no laxity on the part of officials in implementing relief measures to provide succour to people in 21 districts facing scarcity conditions, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said here during an interaction with Deputy Commissioners via video conferencing to review the drought situation.

The government has released Rs 53.76 crore since July for relief works, he said, adding a Central team would be in the state on August 23 to assess the damage caused by drought.

Karnataka government has sought immediate assistance of Rs 318 crore from the Centre to tackle drought and Rs 395 crore for flood relief operations, he said.
