Cadence-2011, a musical evening put up by the ‘Harmony Kids’ Choir’ and conducted by Sandra Oberoi recently, was a festive occasion indeed.

The evening showcased the talents of several little children who dazzled one and all as they belted out popular carols like ‘A King is Born’ and ‘Silent Night’.

The auditorium at Jyoti Nivas College was packed with proud mothers and fathers, who had come to see their talented little tots perform.

The evening began with a prayer, that was led by Reverend Billy Graham.  This was immediately followed by ‘Canon of Praise’, a melodic number which was composed by Johann Pachelbel.

Dressed in purple and white, 25 children took to the stage and sang their hearts out, accompanied on the piano by Abigail and on the cello by Sankar Nath Sett.
Next, the kids began to sing the ever-popular ‘Silent Night, Holy Night’, composed by John F Young and Franz Gruber.

As the choir sang, a few children holding electric diyas entered the stage, lighting up the entire room.  This was followed by a beautiful rendition of ‘Singing Noel’, composed by John F Wilson.

This time, along with the choir, little soloists Samiksha Argal, Rena Abraham and Tiana Oberoi also sang.  Next, the kids took to singing ‘Gloria’, a carol composed by Edward Shippin Barnes.

This time around, the soloists were Jessica Huberts, Aayush J Mathew and Shruthi Badri. The carol was spiced up with Nathanial George and Shreyas A Kudari on the guitars; Sam Kingsly Joshua on bass; and Shakti Sam on percussion. But that wasn’t all — since the song revolved around the angels who sang on the first Christmas, some of the kids even took to the stage dressed as angels, complete with flowing gowns, glittery wings and fluffy halos.

The angels were Alayna Zaid, Anaya Jethanandani, Nayantara Rudra, Rena George, Riana Kapoor, Sameen Rehman and Zahra Wahab. This was followed by several more carols, such as ‘Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring’, ‘Virtuoso’ and ‘A King is Born’. The evening also had guest performances by the Canadian International School and Mallya Aditi International.
