“We have registered a case on the basis of a complaint filed by a local organisation, Jagannath Sena. The matter is under investigation,” an official in the Puri town police station told Deccan Herald.

Demanding action against the producers, the organisation in its complaint has also urged the state government to ban the movie as it has hurt the sentiments of millions of Jagannath devotees. Some of the locals as well as servitors of the Puri shrine had also staged a demonstration on Sunday and burnt posters of the film.

What the protesters found objectionable in the Vishal Bharadwaj directed movie is a sentence Apna haath Jagannath written on the door of a toilet in one of the scenes. The protesters were of the view that there was an attempt to insult Jagannath by putting the god’s name on a toilet door.

The state government is yet to react on the issue. However, theatres in Bhubaneswar, screening the film have already deleted the scene.
