The Taluk Panchayat has resolved to send communication to the Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) of all Panchayats to implement the circular of Zilla Panchayat, which demands providing temporary door numbers to those settled on government land.

During the General Body Meeting of the Taluk Panchayat on Tuesday held under the presidentship of Taluk Panchayat  President Bhavya Gangadhar, the members said that though a circular from Zilla Panchayat had come to the TP saying that Panchayats should take steps to provide temporary door numbers, no progress has been achieved in this direction. Members said that the Panchayat Development Officers should be issued a copy of ZP circular attached with the TP resolution on the same.

However Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Vishwanath Poojary said that he may not be in the position to impose the same on the PDO because he has to adhere by rules.

Calamity relief

Members brought to the notice of the house certain instances where the victims who had lost their house completely in natural calamities were given compensation amount far less then the actual amount fixed for completely damaged houses.

Members said that two individuals of Maloor and Ulaibettu area who had lost their house completely were given only Rs 1,500 each for compensation even though the compensation dispensable is Rs 35,000 in such case.

Responding to Mudabidri Tahshildar Muralidhar said that the compensation is given only after survey. A sum of Rs 10,000 will be given to houses which are partially damaged. A compensation of Rs 1,500 is payable only if the house has minor damages.

In another instance, a member said that a house which lost over 500 tiles was given only Rs 100. In this case, the Tahshilsar promised to look into the matter.

No Tahshildar

The members took exception to the fact that Mangalore Tahshildar has been remaining absent for many important meetings. They said that the proceedings of the meeting are getting affected due to his absence.

“Only Tahshildar will have answers for many of our queries. Due to his absence certain issues are getting represented in the agenda over the last few meetings,” members objected.
