Managalore docs perform rare surgery on 75-year-old

Doctors at Yenepoya Hospital in Kodialbail performed a rare surgery pertaining to the colostomy successfully on a 75-year-old woman.

According to a press release, Dr Vijay Ramachandran, the surgeon in the Department of Gastrointestinal, Laparoscopic and Hepatopancreatobiliary in Yenepoya Hospital, performed the surgery on Lily Madtha (75) from Madantyar, who was suffering from colostomy and multiple complications.

She had been operated four times earlier for complications of Diverticular Disease of the Sigmoid Colon and Colostomy, Paracolostomy hernia, Incisional hernia, Colovesical fistula and a Bladder Calculus.

After evaluating her condition, Dr Vijay Ramachandran decided to perform a single stage procedure tackling all the problems in a complex reoperative colorectal surgical procedure which lasted for five hours. After 10 days of hospital stay, the patient has recovered fully and is free of the colostomy and other problems, said the release.
