Four robbers land in net

Four men have been arrested for involvement in 20 cases of robbery in the national capital region, police said on Friday.

Kartar Naryan, 20, Virender Lal, 32, Vedpal Singh, 35, and Sumit were arrested over a complaint of robbery filed by a resident of Rangpuri village in south Delhi, said Surender Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of police (south).

“The complainant had reported that he had taken a lift in a Maruti Wagon-R car from Vasant Kunj to Mahipalpur. But, during journey, the men in the car had robbed his mobile phone, Rs 4,300 in cash and an ATM card. They also withdrew Rs 15,500 from two different ATMs and then they threw him out of the car in Kapashera,” Kumar said.

After several raids at nearby areas, the police located the car. “The team intercepted the car and apprehended the person driving the car. He was identified as Kartar,” Kumar said. On search, Rs 3,500 and four robbed mobile phones were recovered from the car.

The police have also recovered 18 looted mobile phones, a country made pistol and three live cartridges from their possession.On sustained interrogation, Kartar admitted his involvements in the robberies. He also disclosed that they used to sell the looted property to Sumit, 19, a resident of Pochanpur village.

His other aides were arrested later. “Further investigation is on to find out their previous involvements and to link the same with stolen property. Around 20 cases of robbery are likely to be worked out,” Kumar said.
