Maoists release three persons in Jharkhand

Last Updated 24 January 2012, 19:26 IST

Maoists on Tuesday freed Garhwa zila parishad chairperson Sushma Mehta and two other persons, who were abducted on January 21. But they have not released her security guard.

“We have released the chairperson, her driver Ahmed and CPI (ML-Liberation) leader Akhtar Ansari,” said CPI (Maoist) leader Sudhir.

However, he said Mehta’s security guard Sunesh Ram will be freed only after their demands were met.

Sudhir did not disclose the area where the three persons were set free.
He said they will be able to reach their homes on their own.

He demanded shifting of three camps at Sarju, Odya and Kone to Latehar district, and an end to police operations against them.

Landmine blast

Mehta and three others were in a car when Maoists triggered the landmine blast, which killed 13 policemen at Bariganwa forest in Garhwa.

But police said they had no information about any kidnapping after the blast.
According to police, they were informed by locals about the landmine blast but they did not have information about the abduction of four persons.

Police said they will try to free the security guard. “His safety is important and we will act fast,” said a police official.
