Cleanliness and hygiene at PHCs stressed in the meeting

The border district Chamarajanagar, which has been tagged as the one of the backward districts in the State stands second place in the district in implementation of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

A district-level awareness and incharge committee meeting was held in the city on Tuesday, which reviewed the progress, implementation and the reach of the project and the steps taken by the authorities concerned.

The officials submitted the report on the statistics of the mortality rate of infants and mothers, 100 per cent achievement in hospital delivery and steps taken to control the population level.

While the infant mortality rate stands at 178 for one lakh mothers in the state it is 97 in the district. With the proper implementation of the NRHM programme, the mortality rate of mothers is eight for the current year. Steps have been taken to reduce the figures, the officials explained.

MP R Dhruvanarayan expressed happiness over the implementation of NRHM in the district. The officials of health department should take the responsibility of creating awareness and strive to bag the first place in the district.

Only if awareness created among the elected representatives in the taluk-level, it is possible to reach the target, he said. The MP also stressed on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the primary health centres. Admitting that there are shortage of doctors in the hospital, he said the public resort to assaulting the doctors for medical failure. This is also one of the reason for the doctors hesitating to serve the rural areas. Additional deputy commissioner Dr H T Chandrashekar, ZP president K Rajeshwari and others were present.
