The Karnataka High Court today quashed further investigation against realtor and film producer Goverdhan Murthy, who is facing charges of killing his friend and actor Vinod Kumar.

Justice N Ananda quashed further investigation, saying trial in the matter is on the verge of conclusion.

The present Director General and Inspector General of Police Shankar Bidari had ordered further investigation into the case when he was DGP CID (Criminal Investigation Department).

Kiran Kumar, the victim's brother, had then filed a petition questioning this move, contending there was no need for it as the case was already being investigated and witnesses had been examined.

He had further prayed in the interim application to extend the stay on further investigation in the case. On Jan 24, Justice Subhash B Adi had extended the stay till Jan 30 and adjourned further hearing of the case.

Goverdhan Murthy was booked for allegedly murdering Vinod Kumar in an inebriated condition. Murthy, a producer of two films, had invited him for a party at his farmhouse on Oct 7 2008 and had allegedly shot him following an argument. Before his death, Vinod Kumar had stated that Murthy had shot him.
