Abducted teenager killed, three arrested

Girl had turned down murderers overtures, he murdered her with help of two friends and dumped body in mustard fields

An 18-year-old data-entry operator, who was waylaid and pulled into a car in Chhawla area of south-west Delhi last week, has been killed by the abductors and her body found dumped in Haryana’s Rewari district, police said on Tuesday.

The girl, who lived in Qutab Vihar, was returning home from her office in Gurgaon with two other girls on February 9 when the incident happened. Police have arrested three youths in connection with the case.

Ravi Kumar, 21, Rahul Kumar, 25, and Vinod Lal, 21, had dragged the girl into their Tata Indica car and took her to Karawara village in Rewari and killed her, said R K Pandey, Additional Commissioner of Po lice (south-west).

“The key accused, Ravi, told us that he killed the girl along with his brother Rahul and friend Vinod. The girl had turned down his overtures for courtship and Ravi wanted to take revenge. The body was dumped into a mustard field in Karawara village,” Pandey said.

The girl’s cellphone and the vehicle used in the crime have been recovered. According to Pandey, initial investigation suggested that the topography of Chhawla was hard to understand, so at least one of the abductors must be familiar with the terrain.

“We started identifying likely suspects in Qutub Vihar and examined their activities on the day of the incident,” he said.

Special pickets were also deployed to search for the vehicle used by the criminals. On Monday, an emergency response vehicle of Dwarka Sector-23 police station saw a suspicious car near Dwarka Sector-9 metro station. The police team immediately intercepted the car.

On questioning, one of the three youths, Rahul, said he was a resident of Qutub Vihar.
He was taken to Chhawla police station, where he revealed his involvement in the case. Ravi and Vinod were arrested subsequently. Ravi said the girl lived at his locality.
