Seven killed in road accidents across the Capital

In the last 24 hours, seven persons were killed in different accidents in the national capital silencing the claims of the traffic police of bringing the rate of fatalities down.

In the first incident, which was reported from Hauz Khas in south Delhi, at around 1:15 am Sonia Sethia and Mohan Kumar lost their lives and three people – Mohan Kumar’s son Anjay Kumar and Sonia’s driver Rakesh Kumar and co-passenger Keshav Sharma -- were injured. They were travelling in separate cars.

“Sonia was sitting in rear seat and her driver Rakesh was at the wheels while Keshav was sitting beside him. Her car was hit by Mohan’s coming from back,” said police.

In the second incident, a ten-year-old Bunti Malik, son of Akash Malik and resident of Masjid Moth in south Delhi was run over by a Tata 407 on Sunday morning. 

The accident occurred when Bunti, a class III student in Sarvodya Vidyalaya in Shadique Nagar, was going to school with his father. He was taken to AIIMS trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.

 In the third incident, a Delhi police constable was mowed down by an speeding van in Begampur area of outer Delhi. The constable, later identified as Naveen, was rushed to GTB Hospital where he was declared brought dead. 

The van driver tried to escape, but was handed over to the police. A case of rash driving has been registered against the driver.

The fourth incident was reported from Delhi Cantonment area of south-west Delhi, where a youth died after his motorcycle collided with an unknown vehicle on Airport road near Sampada Bhawan. The incident was reported at 3:10 am on Monday. 

A call was made by a passerby to police control room after which, police reached the spot and rushed the victim to the AIIMS trauma centre.  He was declared brought dead. The deceased was identified as Sarwan Kumar, a resident of Palam.

In the fifth incident, a youth died on the spot after his speeding motorcycle collided with a divider on the roadin Seelampur area of east Delhi. The deceased was identified as Pravesh. Another incident was reported from Nandnagiri area of north-east Delhi on Sunday night. A 25-year-old man died after a truck hit him while he was returning home at Alipur along with a friend. The incident occurred in front of the water treatment plant at Wazirabad road. 
“The decaesed has been identified as Vinod. He had come to Nandnagiri to meet his sister along with a friend Deepak, 35. When they were returning home, a speeding truck hit their bike. They were rushed to GTB Hospital, where Vinod was declared brought dead. Deepak’s condition is said to be stable,” said police.
