Speaking after inaugurating a one-day workshop for Zilla Panchayat office-bearers and members here on Wednesday, she said that the awareness on HIV could be generated in the lower echelons of the society only if the public representatives acquire a scientific knowledge of the subject.
Zilla Panchayat vice-president Chenduru Venkatesh said that people, particularly those in the rural parts lack awareness on the infection and hence are panicked about it. The Zilla Panchayat members should take up the task of educating such people by acquiring knowledge at the workshop.
Information and Communication officer of Karnataka Health Promotion Trust, Balasubramanyam, District Health and Family Welfare Officer V Rajeev, resource persons Dr Narasimhamurthy, S G Venkata Reddy and Devappa enlightened the participants. The workshop was organised by Myrada.
President of Zilla Panchayat standing committee on Health and Education Vani Srinivas, president of standing committee on Agriculture and Industry Ramanjanamma and others were present.
