Designer Swapnil Shinde loves to create a visual for the audience everytime he showcases his work on the ramp.

Known for his avant-garde designs and out-of-the-box inspirations, Swapnil, who was in the City recently, says he enjoys coming to Bangalore.

“Everytime I come here, I feel like it’s my time off from work and the hectic schedules and madness of Mumbai. In Bangalore, I let myself go and bring in something different each time I’m here,” he tells Metrolife.

Describing himself as a creative person, Swapnil says he enjoys the process of creating something from scratch. For him, designing clothes goes beyond setting a new trend. “There’s a story that I want to tell through my clothes,” he says and adds, “When you are showcasing 30 to 35 clothes on the ramp, it can get boring if you don’t take care. As a designer, you have to remember that your audience is there to get entertained. You’ve got to make it exciting for them.”

That’s why for his latest collection, he chose sound waves as his inspiration. “I have tried apply the waves created by modems and other electrical gadgets to my designs in terms of silhouettes, fabrics and the flow of garment,” he adds.

In all these years as a designer, Swapnil has definitely seen a shift in the fashion industry. He believes that fashion has become more affordable. “Many designers are reaching out to the common man and making good quality clothes for them.

Affordability is the mantra now,” he adds.

Swapnil is among the few Indian designers whose dresses are completely Western in their cut and appeal. “My aesthetics are more on the lines of Western wear and frankly, if I try to Indianise my ideas, they end up being disasterous. I did try it once for Rathan Ka Rishta but I prefer to stick to Western wear alone,” he avers.
