10 killed, 20 hurt as trucks collide

Ten persons, including eight women, were killed on the spot and more than 20 injured when a truck carrying a marriage party rammed into a stationary truck from behind, while attempting to overtake another vehicle, near Salahalli village of Ramdurg taluk of Belgaum district on Sunday.

All the deceased and injured were from Sholapur in Maharashtra and were on their way to Margonkoppa village in Bailhongal taluk of Belgaum district to attend a wedding.

Those killed on the spot are Kamala Shivaji Salunke (60), Shivabai Nagnath Sendre (70), Vimala Baburao Vaditele (60), Sumanabai Sendre (40), Kasturibai Saiman Golsangi (40), Kantabai Pandurang Vaditele (50), Prabhavati Vaditele (45), Asif Sultan Shaikh (21) and an unidentified senior citizen.

Nandini Golsangi (30) succumbed to injuries at a hospital at Mudhol in Bagalkot district.
The groom had reached the village Saturday itself.

Inspector General of Police, Northern Range, K S R Charan Reddy, Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil and other police officials visited the spot. Katkol police have registered a case.
