Melzer sails into round two

Jurgen Melzer of Austria and Paul-Henri Mathieu of France both won in straight sets to reach the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Monday.  

The 15th-seeded Melzer broke Polish player Lukasz Kubot's serve five times en route to a 6-2, 7-5 win, while Mathieu took a little over an hour to thrash Donald Young 6-0, 6-1.
  Mathieu did save four break points of his own, but he broke Young's serve six times and clinched victory when the American sent a heavy forehand long. Melzer faces Frenchman Julien Benneteau, who beat Marcel Granollers of Spain 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, in the second round of the tournament. 

Hesh-Bopanna get bye

Sixth seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna have advanced to the ATP Monte Carlo Masters event along with fifth seeds Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek after getting byes in their respective first rounds.

Monaco triumphs

Fourth seed Juan Monaco of Argentina overcame second seed John Isner of the United States 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the final to lift the title in the US Clay Court tennis championship on Sunday. 

In the Casablanca Open men's singles final, third seed Pablo Andujar of Spain beat compatriot and seventh seed Albert Ramos 6-1, 7-6 (5).
