Crater on bridge worries people

The route is the short-cut to connect Shimoga and Chikmagalur district with Dakshina Kannada, and if the bridge is closed, the commercial and cultural link with the regions will also cut off.

The bridge was built during the reign of Chamaraja Wadiyar of Mysore in 1889, and it has already crossed 100 years. Villagers are of the view that the bridge has weakened in the past five years due to the excessive plying of iron ore lorries and due to lack of maintenance.

Though the bridge appears good for a brief glance, the big crater has become a cause for concern. If immediate steps are taken to fill the crater, one can stop the bridge from decaying further.
