The seriously injured nine-year-old Sachin died in hospital while Hari Chand (19) and Pradeep (13) died on the spot. The injured have been admitted at hospitals in Panchkula and Chandigarh. Police sources said the unexploded shell could have floated through a canal and was picked up by the teenagers. An army cantonment is situated close to the site of explosion.
The police have started investigations after lodging a case under Section 304 of the IPC and sections of the Explosive Substances Act.
