Srivastav clinches chess crown

Bangalore’s Komal Srivastav Sajja clinched the boys’ title in the Karnataka State under-7 chess championship at the State Youth Centre here on Sunday.

Komal beat City-mate Rakshith Ashokkumar in the seventh and final round to sign off unbeaten with seven points to emerge champion. Mangalore Partithosh Ramesh and Shubhan R of Puttur finished with 5.5 points but the former was adjudged runner-up on tie-break.

In the girls section, Shimoga’s Spandana M Raikar bagged the crown with a perfect five points after the fifth and final round. City girl Ananya Arumbakkam finished runner-up with four points.

Komal, Parithosh, Spandana and Ananya will represent Karnataka in the National under-7 chess championship to be held in Puducherry from July 15-17.
