Raid on sand racket; coracles seized

A team led by assistant commissioner A B Basavaraju conducted a raid on illegal transportation of sand at Mullur in Kollegal taluk on Friday night.

Despite a ban on extracting sand from Cauvery river, miscreants are involved in extracting sand, using bullock carts and lorries at Mullur.

Acting on a tip-off, the assistant commissioner and police officials seized 25 coracles. The coracles were later sold to a scrap yard for Rs 4,500 each.

Tahsildar Suresh Kumar, circle inspector of police Ravi Nayak, PWD assistant executive engineer Ujani Siddappa, sub-inspector of police Puttaswamy, Sandeep Kumar, TMC environmental engineer Rudregowda and revenue inspector Nanjegowda were present.
