IAC takes up Mahantesh case

Last Updated 26 May 2012, 20:06 IST

Hundreds of India Against Corruption group members took out a candle light protest march from the residence of S P Mahantesh, the deputy director of Cooperative Societies Audit Department, who was allegedly murdered recently, in Chamarajpet to TR Mill on Saturday.

The protesters alleged that the State and the Central governments had failed to provide protection to honest officers. “There has been a series of murders of non-corrupt officers like Sathyendra Dubey, Sehala Masood, Narendra Kumar, Madan Naik and Mahantesh in the country, but the governments have failed to prevent such murders,” they alleged.

Meanwhile, the City police have intensified search operation to trace those behind the murder of Mahantesh. The police reconstituted the team comprising nearly 80 policemen of various wings. The police have reportedly interrogated a call girl and she is learnt to have disclosed the name of an ACP who works in the Central part of the City, said sources in the police department.

The girl reportedly had close links with Mahantesh, a few politicians and a host of top bureaucrats. It is not clear whether she was directly involved in the crime. The police questioned her about a CD which the police possess, added the sources.
