Rain fury: Trees uprooted, power shutdown in City

Upper air cyclonic system causes rain, cloudy weather

In Jayamahal a huge tree fell on the house of Dr B Keshavan, a former professor with the Mysore University. The boundary wall of his building collapsed while the gate and RCC roof was damaged to due the impact. The incident occurred in the early morning of Monday when all the members of Dr Keshavan’s family were asleep. No one was hurt.

Incidents of tree fall was reported at Ejipura, Vijayanagar, JP Nagar, Indiranagar and Shivajinagar. There were, however, no reports of flooding in the City.

The power supply was affected in many parts of Bangalore on Sunday night. At least 500 houses in Doddannanagar at Kaval Byrasandra remained without electricity throughout Monday as three transformers burst due to the short circuit.

At Munivenkatappa block of Venkateshapuram, electric supply remained affected from Sunday early morning to late Monday night. The sources in the Bangalore Meteorology Department said the rains were due to an upper air cyclonic system, which was spreading from Coastal Karnataka to Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh. Due to the cyclonic system the weather in Bangalore was cloudy on Sunday.
