Rural development and panchayat raj minister Jagadish Shettar said politicians and bureaucrats should shun superstition that the district was jinxed.

Speaking at an interaction programme with teachers as part of a campaign for BJP candidate Gurunanjaiah for south teachers’ constituency for Council polls here recently, he said “for that matter no district is jinxed.”

Stating that he has visited the district on several occasions so far as minister and leader of opposition, he said he was a follower of Basavanna and hence did not have any superstitions.

“However, even if one loses power, one should understand that power is not eternal. One should know one has to step down one or the other day,” he said.

Pointing out that the state government has laid stress on the development of the district, he said projects to supply drinking water to rural areas were under progress. “We have accorded equal priority to all sectors. In the budget, Rs 100 crore has been set aside to fill tanks and lakes. Education has also got a fillip,” he asserted.

MLC K R Mallikarjunappa said the government has allocated Rs 15,000 crore for education.
“Earlier governments had neglected education. But, the BJP government has understood the importance of education in nation-building. We have fulfilled 33 out of 44 demands of teachers. As all schools established before 1995 get aid, 18,000 teachers have been benefitted,” he said.

MLA G N Nanjundaswamy, MLC Thontadary, Ambedkar SC/ST Development Corporation A R Krishnamurthy and CHUDA chairman S Balasubramanya were present on the occasion.
