BBMP in damage control mode

In its efforts to combat the erratic monsoon and other emergency situations, the BBMP has been strengthening its Task Forces in the city. As many as 10 new “Prahaari” vehicles have been added to the Palike’s emergency force with two task forces stationed at the Palike headquarters.

“We have placed one task force in each of the eight zones under BBMP jurisdiction with two task forces at the Palike along with 25 labourers who can act immediately to counter monsoon related issues,” informed a Palike official.

Earlier, the Palike had only eight task forces with one stationed at the Headquarters. Now, the strength has been increased with one more task force added to the list stationed at the Palike HQ. The BBMP inducted the Prahaari vehicles into service 15 days ago in view of the continuing monsoons and for future emergency.

This apart, the BBMP has also put eight senior officials and engineers in-charge of night rounds in each zones to tackle troubles in every zone. Control rooms have been set up in every zone to receive complaints apart from the main control room at the Palike Headquarters and the centralised complaint cell in Malleshwaram, said the official.

Palike confident

The Palike is now confident that any emergency can be addressed by them on receiving the complaint at any time of day. “The Monday night showers have not been that bad and the complaints that were registered were addressed quickly. While there is a specialised tree cutting team, we have to wait for at least for an hour for water-logging to recede in low-lying areas,” said the official.
