Man crushed to death under tempo

A man was crushed to death by a speeding tempo when he was crossing a road at Mehrauli in south Delhi, police said on Saturday.

Rajeshwar Singh lived near Durga Ashram in Chattarpur.

“Rajeshwar was crossing Satbadi Road near Chhattarpur village when the accident took place around 6 am on Friday. He was crushed under the rear wheels of the tempo,” a police official said.

After receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot and took him to AIIMS, where he was declared brought dead upon arrival.

Tempo driver Jitender, who hails from Bihar’s Nalanda district, was overpowered by locals and handed over to police.

A case of rash driving and causing death by negligence has been registered against him under sections 279 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code at Mehrauli police station. Police have also seized the tempo.
