Last Updated 17 September 2009, 17:32 IST

Addressing a news conference on Thursday, he said that the water supply problem can be curbed to a large extent if express electricity line is provided to Yagachi pump house from Mugulavalli centre.

He said that the 12 inch pipeline used to pump water from Hirekolale lake is filled with silt. As a result, only 6 inch water is being pumped.

Due to this the city does not get adequate water even when the lake is full. “A proposal has been submitted for replacement of pipelines. A sum of Rs 2.81 lakh has been released for dredging of Hirekolale lake,” he said and added that the colour of the water has changed in Yagachi and Hirekolale due to the rains and this colour cannot be changed even by purification method. If bleaching powder and chlorine are used more than prescribed quantity then it will have an adverse effect on the health of the people.
He urged the people to drink boiled water to maintain good health.

SFC grant

The State Government has sanctioned Rs 535 lakh for urban development under State Finance Corporation grant. A sum of Rs 40 lakh will be released every month under this grant. Tender has been called for works of Rs 3.24 crore and about 22.75 per cent of the total grant will be utilised for development of SC/ST colonies.

A sum of Rs 45.25 crore has been sanctioned to provide underground drainage facilities to Housing Board, Kalyan Nagar, Hiremagalur, Gavanahalli, Ramanahalli, Gaurikaluve, Uppalli, Kempanahalli, Karkipete and other extensions.

He said that there are 147 parks in the council limits, of which 52 parks have been fenced.
