The formal opening on the day will be followed by a dinner hosted by the university's Pro Vice-Chancellor (International) David Pilsbury at the Taj Connemara Hotel in Chennai.
The move reflects the rapid growth in Coventry University's relationships with India, and is also the fourth office that it has opened in areas of strategic importance to support its development as a global institution.

The Coventry University office in Chennai will support activities across India, offer enhanced support for students and forge better relationships with in-country partners.
Dr Pilsbury said: "The office will support students, parents and others interested in the educational opportunities in Coventry, and also corporate, educational and research partnerships in India."

Having a permanent presence in India would also enable the university to offer Indian students work experience and employment opportunities to prepare them for the global world of work.

During 2008-09, the university worked with more than 8,000 companies including Indian firms such as car giant Tata Motors which owns Midland-based Jaguar Land Rover.
Dr Pilsbury said that at a time when the world economy was coming out of recession, such experiences would position Coventry graduates favourably in the marketplace and also give the India office a distinctive presence.
