Dist receives 104.1 mm less rain

The district has received 104.1 mm less rainfall than the forecast till July 4.

Informing this to a meeting on the measures taken to check drought, chaired by the medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas, on Thursday, joint director of agriculture Krishnaiah said the district has received 210.6 mm rainfall till the afore said date.
According to the forecast, the district had to receive 314.7 mm rainfall. Giving information on the area of sowing, the officer said in the year 2012-13, in the monsoon season, sowing has been taken up on 3,12,650 hectares of land. The damage to crops has been recorded at the area of 1,41,237 hectares.

If the district receives sufficient rain in the ongoing month, seeds of crops like ragi, maize, tur, groundnut, sunflower can be sown. The fertiliser storage is recorded at 22,449 metric tonne.
