Even as BJP effected the second change in Karnataka leadership in the last 11 months by replacing D V Sadanada Gowda with Jagadish Shettar in Karnataka, the party today sought to play it down saying it is not symptomatic of instability in the organisation.

"Happenings in Karnataka are not a symbol of instability but indicate the democratic set-up of the party," BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar told PTI after Jagadish Shettar was elected as the leader of Karnataka BJP Legislature Party.

Asked about reports regarding the "set of demands" put forth by outgoing chief minister Sadananda Gowda, Javdekar said "we are the party that follows a democratic process within the organisation".

Dismissing reports that the BJP leadership is often seen capitulating to stalwart leaders, Javadekar said "there are so many Congress-ruled states where chief ministers are changed".

"It is important that governance has not suffered in Karnataka because of the change in leadership. Even the Planning Commission has termed Karnataka the best-ruled state on all developmental parameters," he added.
