Hebbal police has arrested a person for allegedly murdering his wife and also recovered weapons used for committing the crime.

The suspect Muniyappa, 55, a resident of V Nagenahalli allegedly slit his wife Muniyamma’s throat and bludgeoned her to death suspecting her fidelity, police said.

Muniyappa was apparently upset after he heard rumours about his wife, a sweeper at ISRO, being spotted with another man. Muniyamma was his second wife.

Matters turned worse when Muniyamma refused to go with him for a festival on May 22 organised by her family members in Tumkur, as she could not take leave from work. She asked him to leave, saying she would join him the next day.

But Muniyappa returned from the village the same night suspecting he would catch her red-handed. Though he found her alone at home, he picked up an argument with her. Later, he slit her throat and smashed her head with a stone. He locked the doors of the house and threw the keys on the terrace, police said.

Muniyamma’s daughter grew suspicious when her mother did not come for the function even on the second day and called her neighbours. Meanwhile, Muniyappa lodged a complaint alleging that his wife was murdered and also co-operated with the investigation. But police found that his complaint had some contradictory statements and arrested him.

Homemaker found dead

Veena, 24, a homemaker, was found hanging at her house on Sunday night. She was married to Lokesh and the couple were staying on Yamunanadi Road in Chamarajpet.

They were married for five years and had two sons. Lokesh, an employee with a private bank, had gone out with his sons when the incident took place.
