Mukherjee to take oath on Wednesday

Pranab Mukherjee will be sworn in as India’s 13th President at 11:30 am on Wednesday.

On July 25, the oath will be administered by the Chief Justice of India at the Central Hall of the Parliament. Soon after Mukherjee will escort President Pratibha Patil, who will relinquish her office on July 24, to her temporary house at 2 Tughlaq Lane in the capital till the government completes her new house in Pune.

On his return to the Rashtrapati Bhawan after accompanying Patil to her Tughlaq Lane hosue, Mukherjee will spent his first night at his palatial new home following an old tradition by which new president always spent his first night in the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Mukherjee will also have to discard his Defence Ministry registered white Ambassador car, which he was using since when he was the defence minister. The new President will now occupy a black S600L Pullman luxury saloon which is the official carrier of the head of the nation.
