The Estimates Committee of the State legislature has recommended the government to draw a long-term project to set up medical colleges in every district and fill up vacant posts in all the government hospitals.

The committee headed by BJP MLA Abhay Patil submitted its report pertaining to the Medical Education department to the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.

The report has highlighted that the ratio of doctors and paramedical staff was not proportional to the population of a region and that hospitals should be set up in all districts to address the problem.

It also recommends that irregularities in the recruitment of staff on contract basis should be probed. It stated that contract norms should be strictly followed. It has also been recommended that biometric attendance be made compulsory for contract employees.

Other recommendations are: Prevent PG medical seats of government quota from being snatched by private managements; revive Gulbarga cancer hospital which is inactive.

It should be started with the help of private participation in three months; take action to procure equipment for Bidar hospital;  take action against officers concerned for not utilising Rs two crore given by the BDA to KMDC for purchase of X-ray machine; take action against first division assistant T R Kumar of Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital for misappropriation of Rs 25.22 lakh.

Non-release of funds on time has hindered construction activities; the government’s decision to buy 20 flats at Shraddha Residence complex for Belgaum Medical College is controversial.

The government should stop purchasing immovable properties from private parties; install elevators at Bangalore Dental College
