Body of a 32-year-old Delhi Police head constable, who was missing since Wednesday, was found in outer Delhi’s Bawana canal on Friday. Police suspect that he either committed suicide or may have been killed over personal enmity.

Sunil Kumar lived with his family at Pul Prahladpur in south-east Delhi.

He had been working as a reader in Delhi Police’s business department at police headquarters.

“The matter is being considered suspicious as there were injury marks on Sunil’s head along with minor abrasions and grazes. The exact cause of his death can only be ascertained after a post-mortem,” a police official said.

An investigation was taken up after Sunil’s family approached police after he did not return home on Wednesday.

His colleagues had confirmed that he had attended office.

Things turned serious after his Hyundai i10 car was recovered near Bawana canal on Thursday morning.

Expert divers were later roped in to trace his body in the canal after cops suspected that he may have committed suicide or may have been dumped after being killed.

“His body was finally fished out at 11.30 am on Friday and taken to Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in Model Town,” the official added.

Officials said they are investigating the matter from all angles.

Cops have questioned the 32-year-old’s family and friends to find out if he had an enmity with anyone.

Sunil’s body will be handed over to family after a post-mortem on Saturday.
