Road works worth Rs 60 lakh launched

Work on double road from the town church to Ashraya Layout was launched by Member of Legislative Assembly V Muniyappa at Dibburahalli Road here on Saturday. The work is being taken up at a cost of Rs 60 lakh.

The 400 mt length-road will be widened and asphalted on either sides of the road, besides a median will also be placed all along the stretch. Already road below from the railway underbridge to the church has been widened and asphalted at a cost of Rs 75 lakh, said legislator Muniyappa. However, it requires at least Rs one crore to take up two-lane widening of Dibburahalli road till Hanumanthapura gate. A proposal seeking the required funds has been submitted to the government and work will be taken up once the funds are released.

Under the SFC Grants, Rs 3 crore has been granted to take up development of roads in the town, he said and called upon the authorities concerned to meet the deadline.

The legislator further stated that to meet drinking water crisis, 16 borewells have been sunk in the town jurisdiction and another eight borewells are in the offing.

Deprived of home

As many as 5,000 houses have been granted for the poor in the taluk but opposition by 12 panchayats in releasing funds, has deprived the beneficiaries of their homes, said Legislator V Muniyappa.

These opposing local bodies have been given 15 days of deadline to finalise their stand and also to remove ineligible beneficiaries from the list. If these panchayats fail to provide new list, the old list will be considered as valid to distribute houses, he warned.
