Woman jumps under train; kills self

A woman committed suicide, allegedly by jumping under a moving train near Ramabai Nagar in the city on Sunday at 9.15 am.

The unidentified victim was seen running towards the track, even as the driver of the Mysore-Nanjangud passenger train honked, according to railway police. In no time, the woman had jumped on the track that severed both the legs from her body.

Alert locals, who rushed to her help, shifted her to a hospital in 108 ambulance, where she succumbed to the injuries. Suspecting that the woman may belong to nearby locality, railway police enquired at Ramabai Nagar, J P Nagar and nearby areas, but to no avail. The woman is aged around 35 years, wheatish in complexion, five feet tall, round faced, wearing white and red chequered top and maroon pant. She has tied a red coloured thread on her right wrist. Relatives, if any, may call police on 2516579.

Hit-and-run

An elderly man was killed in a hit-and-run case on the Mysore-Bangalore road on Sunday.

The incident occurred around 4.30 am, when Ramu (58), an attender with the veterinary department was crossing the road near Vara Ganapati Petrol bunk. An unidentified four-wheeler fatally knocked down Ramu. He was a resident of Rajendra Nagar in the city.
