Man gets 7-yr jail term for raping minor

A person, who had  kidnapped and sexually assaulted a minor girl, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment by the POSCO court, here, on Wednesday.

Nagendra, son of Balu, a resident of Gandhi Nagar, in the city had kidnapped a girl from her school on June 8, 2013, and had taken her to Coimbatore, where he promised to marry her and sexually assaulted her. He had also threatened her against revealing the issue to anybody.

Narasimharaja Police had registered a case against the accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012, and the case was heard by the POCSO Court special judge V M Pawale.

A fine of Rs 25,000 has also been imposed on the accused. B C Shivarudraswamy was the special public prosecutor for the case.
