Admission to postgraduate courses at Bangalore University (BU) for academic year 2012-13 will be delayed further.

Counselling for the centralised admission, earlier scheduled to begin on August 30, will now commence on September 1. Provisional final merit list will be published on August 30.

The admission process, which the university had promised to complete by August, will not even begin this month. M C Radhakrishna, Chairperson of the Centralised Postgraduate Admission Committee, has attributed the delay to “technical reasons”. Nonetheless, it will be a challenge for the university to adhere to the new timetable. Questions have already been raised on the university’s ability to complete the admission process in 12 days. More delays might hamper the academic calendar.

No counselling will be held for transgender students under the supernumerary quota as the university did not receive even a single application. Reservation of seats under the quota has not attracted students from the sexual minorities. Not a single student applied under the quota since it was introduced in the academic year 2010-11.

Revised timetable

- August 30: Announcement of provisional final merit list
- Sept 1: Counselling for supernumerary quota: 9.30 am to 1.30 pm: NCC, Defence, Sports, Kashmiri Migrants, Physically Challenged; 2.30-5 pm: NSS, Cultural, Within Karnataka, Outside Karnataka. Only students ranked 1st to 10th will be considered as just one seat will be available under each category. Students with a rank beyond 10 will be considered only if there is a vacancy.
- Sept 2: Faculties of Law and Education (BPEd, MPEd, MEd)
- Sept 2-3: Commerce (MCom, MFA, MIB, MTA and MBS)
- Sept 5-7: Science
- Sept 10-12: Arts
- Sept 13: Commencement of classes

Each day, the counselling will start at 9 am at the Jnanajyothi Auditorium, Central College. On September 12, it will be held at the Academic Staff College, Central College.
