Inaugurating “Vishwachetana” and “Kajana,” the new buildings along with the library at Kalagrama on Bangalore University premises on Saturday, the Chief Minister said “Kuvempu’s works should not be looked as just literary works because he had adopted a rationalistic approach, with a focus on society. Whatever, we are doing to popularise his works is not sufficient.”

Yeddyurappa said that government had declared 2009 as `Kannada Implementation Year’ and steps were being taken to make Kannada as official language.
He also elaborated on several programmes initiated by the government to promote Kannada language, culture and literature. The CM also said that he had requested his Tamil Nadu counterpart that the

petition filed in Madras High Court challenging the classical status accorded to Kannada be disposed off at the earliest.
Dr De Javare Gowda, former Vice-Chancellor, Mysore University, appreciated the efforts by KBBP to popularise Kannada works by translating them into foreign languages. The CM released 10 books published by KBBP, on the occasion.
