Five achievers from various fields were honoured with Ramakrishna Hegde Memorial award to mark 87th birth anniversary of former chief minister late Ramakrishna Hegde.

Narahalli Balasubramanyam for his achievements in literature, Poojashree Venkatesh for sports (tennis), L S N Achar for arts, D Mahadevappa and G S Kumar for journalism were presented with the award and a cash prize of Rs five thousand at a programme organised here on Thursday.

Ex-chairman of Legislative Council B K Chandrashekar recalling his days with Ramakrishna Hegde said that he was a man of simplicity. He always obtained complete information about anything he had to speak in the assembly.

Lauding Hegde for his concern about agriculture, he said, he never neglected farmers and agricultural activities. He worked for their benefit, understanding the aspects at their best. He insisted on public perception. Interests of public should be thought upon and considered.
Commenting on politicians, Chandrashekar regretted that though present politicians are known for being active round the clock, they do lack interest in other happenings. “Hegde involved himself in activities of music and literature. He entered social life as a journalist.”

Hegde never associated himself with caste campaigns but overcame many limitations to be a successful politician.

Ex- president of Mysore Zilla Sahitya Parishat N Girigowda, journalist Ravindra Bhat, state president of Ramakrishna Hegde Rashtriya Chintana Vedike K S Sathyanarayana,  K Raguram, general secretary H S Subbanna and others were present.
